chained
reinforcement is delivered after completion of a series of simple schedules, each with its own discriminative stimulus (to be rewarded with food a pigeon must satisfy a variable interval 20 schedule in the presence of a red key and then a fixed time 3 schedule in the presence of a blue key)
tandem
reinforcement is delivered after completion of a series of simple schedules, all with the same discriminative stimulus (to produce food a pigeon must complete three successive fixed ratio 25 schedules all paired with a purple key)
multiple
two or more schedules alternate within a period of time, each with its own discriminative stimulus (within the same session pigeon is exposed to a fixed ratio 25 paired with a red key and a fixed ratio 100 paired with a yellow key. schedules would alternate after each reinforcer delivery)
concurrent
two or more reinforcement schedules are presented at the same time, each with its own discriminative stimulus (pigeon is simultaneously exposed to a variable interval 15 schedule paired with a purple key and a variable interval 30 schedule paired with a red key)
fixed-ratio (FR)
a reinforcer is delivered after every X number of responses (pigeon is given 3 sec of food after every 25 pecks)
fixed time (FT)
reinforcer delivered every X seconds independent of behavior (pigeon given food every 30 seconds regardless of pecking)
variable interval (VI)
reinforcer is given after the first response that follows a period of time since the last reinforcer delivery, these periods of time all add up to an average (pigeon given food following the first peck after an unpredictable period of time since the last food delivery, these time periods average to 30 seconds)
variable time (VT)
reinforcer is delivered on the average of every X seconds independent of behavior (pigeon given food regardless of pecking at varying periods of time which all average 20 seconds)
differential reinforcement of other behavior (DRO)
reinforcer is delivered after a specific period of time passes without a specific behavior (pigeon is given food after every 15 seconds without a peck)
differential reinforcement of low rate (DRL)
reinforcer is delivered after an inter response time (IRT) that equals or exceeds a specific period of time (pigeon is given food after peck only if it has gone 10 seconds without pecking)
fixed consecutive number (FCN)
a reinforcer is delivered after a response to one discriminative stimulus only if at least the last X consecutive responses were to a different discriminative stimulus. (pigeon is given food after pecking a red key only if the last 20 pecks were on the green key)
variable ratio (VR)
reinforcement provided after an average number of responses
