Leukocytes
White blood cells ; protects body from infectious microorganisms. Makes up 1% of blood.
Erythrocytes
Red blood cells; responsible for transporting oxygen, hormones, nutrients, and waste throughout the body. Makes up 44% of blood.
Apex
The most inferior, lateral, and anterior part of the heart.
Hemoglobin
A protein in red blood cells that is responsible for transporting oxygen in the blood.
Platelets
Small cell fragments in the blood that help with clotting and preventing bleeding.
Plasma
Liquid part of cell - makes up 55% of blood. its 90% water and 10% dissolved gasses, salts, minerals, waste, hormones, nutrients, etc.
Neutrophils
A type of leukocyte that kills and digest bacteria/fungi. it is the most numerous.
Eosinophils.
A type of leukocytes. Kills ingested parasites and helps with allergic reactions.
Basophils.
A type of leukocyte. It releases histamines and helps with body’s immune response.
Lymphocytes.
A type of leukocyte. It creates antibodies tof ight bacteria, viruses, etc. 2 types: T-cells and B-cells.
Monocytes.
A type of leukocyte. It attacks and engulfs viruses, parasites, and bacterial infections. It becomes macrophages or dendritic cells.
Veins
Blood vessels that take blood to the heart.
Arteries
Blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart to all of the body’s tissues.
Capillaries
Connect the arteries and the veins.
