Chromosomes
Long strands of DNA containing genes. Found in 23 pairs in a human
Cell cycle
The process a cell goes through to divide
Mitosis
A type of cell division that creates 2 identical daughter cells
Therapeutic cloning
producing an embryo with the same genes as the patient
Mitosis stage 1
DNA replicates to form two copies of each chromosome. The cell grows and the number of ribosomes and mitochondria increase
Mitosis stage 2
one set of chromosomes is pulled to each end of the cell and the nucleus divides
Mitosis stage 3
the cytoplasm and cell membrane divides to produce two identical daughter cells
How is mitosis important?
It is important in the growth and development of multicellular organisms e.g. tissue repair and reproduction
