Scale model
A physical representation of something in the world that can help us explain phenomena or solve problems.
Phenomenon
An object, like the one-way mirror, that looks different in different conditions.
Systems thinking
A type of thinking where scientists identify important parts, investigate how those parts interact, and set a boundary on what is important to explain.
DQB (Driving Question Board)
A board where students post questions they have about a phenomenon to guide their future investigations and learning.
Respectful (Classroom Norm)
A norm where the classroom is a safe space to share, providing support and encouragement, sharing time to talk, and critiquing ideas rather than people.
Equitable (Classroom Norm)
A norm where everyone's participation and ideas are valuable, monitoring time spent talking, and recognizing that people represent ideas in different ways.
Committed to our community (Classroom Norm)
A norm where students learn together, come prepared for a common goal, and listen carefully to understand everyone's ideas.
Moving our science thinking forward (Classroom Norm)
A norm where students work together to figure things out, build on others' ideas, use evidence, and remain open to changing their minds.
Box Model
A scale model used to investigate the music teacher/student phenomenon, including components like flashlights, viewing holes, and two separate rooms (Room A and Room B).
Consensus Discussion
A discussion aimed at figuring out areas of agreement and disagreement in initial models or diagrams while practicing classroom norms.
