Solid
A state of matter where particles are tightly packed in a regular pattern, have a definite shape and volume, and vibrate in place.
Liquid
A state of matter where particles are close together with no regular arrangement, move about, flow, and take the shape of their container, having a definite volume but no definite shape.
Gas
A state of matter where particles are well separated with no regular arrangement, move freely at high speeds, have no definite shape or volume, and are easily compressible.
Plasma
A state of matter that has no definite volume or shape, composed of electrically charged particles.
Definite Volume
A characteristic of solid and liquid states of matter where the volume does not change.
No Definite Shape
A characteristic of liquid and gas states of matter indicating they take the shape of their container.
Compressible
A property of gases allowing them to occupy a smaller volume under pressure.
