ALNCCB

American Legal Nurse Consultant Certification Board; a functionally autonomous component of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants that administers the LNCC program.

LNCC

Legal Nurse Consultant Certified; a credential indicating an individual is knowledgeable of, experienced in, and committed to the specialty of legal nurse consulting.

PROMETRIC

The testing company contracted by the ALNCCB to provide examination development, administration, and application services for the LNCC examination.

RN Licensure Eligibility

Candidates must have a current, full, and unrestricted license as a registered nurse in the United States or its territories at the time of application.

RN Clinical Practice Requirement

A minimum of five years’ experience practicing as a registered nurse is required to be eligible for certification.

LNC Experience Requirement

2000 hours of legal nurse consulting experience within the past five years is required for eligibility.

Legal Nurse Consulting Practice Criteria

Activities must be performed at the request of a client, require the education and experience of an RN, and be generally considered billable.

Excluded Billable Activities

Traveling to and from sites, accounting and billing, marketing, and solely waiting to give testimony may not be used to satisfy eligibility requirements.

ABSNC

Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification; the body that accredits nursing certification programs which meet high standards for testing.

LNCC Examination Format

A 4-hour test consisting of 200 multiple choice items, often in the form of case studies followed by questions.

Modified-Angoff Approach

A standard process in the testing industry used to set the passing score based on a panel of experts evaluating the probability of a minimally qualified candidate answering questions correctly.

Required Scaled Score

To pass the LNCC examination, a scaled score of $95$ is needed.

LNCC Certification Validity

Certification is valid for a period of five years from the last day of the month in which the examination was passed.

Certification Renewal (Contact Hours)

One method of renewal requiring a current RN license, 2000 hours of LNC practice in the prior five years, and 60 contact hours.

Reconsideration Filing Deadline

A request for reconsideration must be filed in writing within 45 days following the date on which an adverse decision was mailed.

Appeal Filing Deadline

An appeal may be filed within 60 days following the date on which the adverse decision on the request for reconsideration was mailed.

Medical Malpractice Content Weight

The portion of the LNCC examination covering medical malpractice, weighted at $19-23\%$.

Computer Based Test (CBT) Windows

The examination is offered twice annually: April 1 through June 30 and September 1 through November 30.
