Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025
A legislation that came into force on 1July2026, which repealed the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005, and increased the statutory employment guarantee from 100 days to 125 days per financial year.
Unemployment Allowance (VB-GRAM G Act)
A daily entitlement for eligible workers if employment is not provided within 15 days of application; it is at least one-fourth of the notified wage rate for the first 30 days and at least one-half for the remaining period.
Delay Compensation (VB-GRAM G Act)
A penalty calculated at 0.05% of unpaid wages per day of delay, applicable if wage payments are delayed beyond a fortnight (15 days) after the work is performed.
Agricultural Season Pause Provision
A provision under the VB-GRAM G Act allowing states to notify an aggregate period of up to 60 days in a financial year, covering peak sowing and harvesting, during which works will ordinarily not be undertaken.
Normative Allocation Principle
The funding model replacing the demand-driven system, where the Central Government determines annual state-wise allocations based on prescribed objective parameters.
Sui generis model
A unique or specifically designed governance framework proposed for the Union Territory of Ladakh under Article 371 of the Constitution, involving an elected body with legislative, executive, and financial powers.
Part XXI of the Constitution
The section of the Indian Constitution containing temporary, transitional, and special provisions, including Articles 371 to 371J which provide specific protections for various states.
Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust
An independent body approved on 5February2020 to manage the property and construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya following the Supreme Court's 2019 judgment.
Juristic Person
A legal entity recognized by law as having rights and duties; in the Ayodhya title-dispute, Ram Lalla Virajman was recognized as such.
Nagara Architecture
The traditional architectural style in which the main Ram Temple in Ayodhya has been constructed, featuring 392 pillars and 44 entrance gates.
Agnipath Scheme
A recruitment system approved on 14June2022 for personnel below officer rank in the Indian Armed Forces, where recruits (Agniveers) serve for a four-year period.
Seva Nidhi
The financial package paid to Agniveers at the end of their four-year tenure, consisting of the worker's monthly contributions and matching government contributions from a non-lapsable corpus fund.
AISHE (All India Survey on Higher Education)
An annual nationwide survey launched in 2010–11 by the Ministry of Education to gather comprehensive data on India’s higher education sector.
Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER)
A statistical measure used in education to determine the percentage of students enrolled in a specific level of education (aged 18–23 for higher education in India) relative to the population of that age group.
SHANTI
The acronym for India’s official campaign for a UNSC non-permanent seat for the 2028–29 term, standing for "Securing Holistic Advancement through Norms, Trust and Integrity."
G4 Grouping
A diplomatic coalition consisting of India, Brazil, Germany, and Japan that supports expansion in both permanent and non-permanent categories of the UN Security Council.
Guardian of the Blue Horizon
The highest presidential distinction of Seychelles, conferred on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2026 for his work on climate action and the Blue Economy.
LAMITIYE
A biennial military exercise conducted between the armed forces of India and Seychelles; the 11th edition was held in March 2026 in a tri-service format.
Project UNICORN
The first India-Japan defence-equipment co-development project, involving a Unified Complex Radio Antenna mast system to improve the stealth characteristics of naval ships.
LUPEX (Lunar Polar Exploration Mission)
A joint lunar mission being developed by ISRO (India) and JAXA (Japan) to study water presence and distribution in the Moon’s polar region.
Operation Hard Ball
A multi-country investigation announced by the US Department of Justice on 7July2026 targeting transnational criminal networks allegedly involving figures like Lawrence Bishnoi.
RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act)
A US federal law used to target continuing criminal enterprises, allowing prosecutors to link multiple offenses to a single organization.
Palermo Convention
The United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, adopted in 2000, which serves as the principal international framework against organized crime.
Nehru–Liaquat Pact
Also known as the Delhi Pact of 1950, it was an agreement between India and Pakistan to protect religious minorities, which led to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee's resignation from the Union Cabinet.
Bharatiya Jana Sangh
A political party founded by Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee in 1951 to promote cultural nationalism; it is the predecessor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Samvidhan Hatya Diwas
An observance designated for 25June to commemorate the imposition of the Emergency in 1975 and its impact on democratic values.
GO-EAST
A platform launched by the Odisha government, standing for "Government of Odisha - Eastern Investment Accelerator and Special Task Force," aimed at boosting industrial investment.
VIJAY Roadmap
The Indian Army's strategic roadmap for a technology-enabled future, standing for Vigilance, Innovation, Jointness and Integration, Atmanirbharta, and Yodha First.
PACTS
The "Partnership on Cyber, Critical Technologies and Supply Chains" launched by India and Australia in 2026 to bolster cooperation in semiconductors, AI, and cybersecurity.
Bintang Adipurna
The highest civilian honour of Indonesia, conferred upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2026 by President Prabowo Subianto.
GAGAN
India’s indigenous GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation system, developed by ISRO and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to improve GPS accuracy for aviation and other sectors.
SOLVE
The "Sub-Orbital Launch Vehicle for Experiments," developed by ISRO to support parachute and qualification tests for the Gaganyaan Crew Module.
