gel prep

dissolve powdered agarose in hot water and pour in electrophoresis tank…place comb and allow gel to solidify

Buffer solution

when gel is set, place buffer solution to regulate pH

Transferring DNA

use micropipette to transfer sample of DNA into the wells…DNA is mixed with tracking dye to track movement

Reference DNA

use of known DNA length to track and compare movement

Battery pack

connect electrodes and place the negative electrodes at the same ends of the DNA in wells

End result

once DNA has moved sufficiently, battery is turned off and buffer solution is poured out and rinsed…flourescent stain can be placed to identify DNA ladder
