Values

Beliefs, principles, and major priorities that guide decisions, actions, and behavior, helping individuals determine what is right, important, and meaningful while enabling them to improve themselves and contribute positively to society.

Carter V's Definition of Values

Characteristics considered important because of psychological, social, moral, or aesthetic reasons.

Personal Values

A type of values focused primarily on personal growth and survival.

Social Values

A type of values that enables individuals to improve society and foster interpersonal connections such as friendship, cooperation, and commitment.

Sensory Value

A category in the hierarchy of values that pertains to basic biological needs such as food and clothing.

Vital Value

A level in the hierarchy of values focused on life, health, and general well-being.

Spiritual Value

A level in the hierarchy of values that includes qualities such as peace, faith, and forgiveness.

Holy Value

The highest level in the hierarchy of values aimed at strengthening one's relationship with God, characterized by holiness, faithfulness, humility, and contentment.

The psychological perspective wherein the self is taken as the central dynamic in human development.

Process of Valuing

A life-long and personal development process categorized into three distinct stages: Choosing, Prizing, and Acting.

Choosing

The first stage of the valuing process, which requires choosing freely, choosing from alternatives, and choosing after considering the consequences of those alternatives.

Prizing

The second stage of the valuing process, which involves cherishing and being happy with the choice, as well as being willing to affirm the choice publicly.

Acting

The final stage of the process of valuing, wherein an individual acts upon the chosen priority.

Religious Background in Values Education

An aspect of values education concerned with values in its pursuit of truth, sharing many basic values across different religions.

Scientific Background in Values Education

An aspect that assists in making value judgments when related to value assumptions, where new scientific information does not pose a threat even if it alters the frame of reference.
