Data Communication
The process of exchanging data or information between two devices through a transmission medium.
Network
A group of computers and other devices connected together to share resources.
Protocol
A set of rules that governs data communications to ensure proper exchange of information.
OSI Reference Model
A conceptual framework that describes the tasks involved in inter-computer communication divided into logical layers.
TCP/IP Model
A set of communication protocols used for the Internet and similar networks, consisting of application, transport, internet, and network interface layers.
Transmission Medium
The physical path by which a message travels from sender to receiver, like cables or wireless signals.
Simplex Communication
A communication mode that allows data transmission in only one direction.
Half-Duplex Communication
A communication mode where data can be transmitted in both directions, but not simultaneously.
Full-Duplex Communication
A communication mode that allows data transmission in both directions simultaneously.
Bandwidth
The maximum rate of data transfer across a network in a given time.
Latency
The time delay experienced in the transmission of data over a network.
Jitter
The variation in packet arrival time in network data transmission.
Network Topology
The arrangement of different elements (links, nodes) in a computer network.
Wired Network
A network that uses physical cables to connect devices.
Wireless Network
A network that uses high-frequency radio waves to communicate between devices.
Scalability
The ability of a network to grow and manage increased demand by adding resources.
