Molarity
A concentration unit defined as moles of solute per liter of solution.
Dilution Equation
M1V1 = M2V2; an equation relating the molarity and volume of a concentrated solution to that of a diluted solution.
Solubility
The ability of a substance to dissolve in a solvent, typically water.
Stock Solution
A concentrated solution used to prepare diluted solutions.
Electrolyte
A substance that dissociates into ions in solution and conducts electricity.
Non-Electrolyte
A substance that does not dissociate into ions in solution and does not conduct electricity.
Spectator Ions
Ions that do not participate in a chemical reaction and remain unchanged.
Net Ionic Equation
An equation that shows only the species that participate in a reaction, excluding spectator ions.
Concentration
The amount of solute in a given volume of solution.
Precipitation Reaction
A reaction that occurs when two solutions combine to form an insoluble solid.
Aqueous (aq)
A term used to describe a substance dissolved in water.
Solid (s)
A term indicating that a substance does not dissolve in water and remains in solid form.
