First Amendment
Protects the freedoms of speech, religion, press, assembly, and petition.
Second Amendment
Protects the right to keep and bear arms.
Third Amendment
Prohibits the quartering of soldiers in private homes during peacetime without the owner's consent.
Fourth Amendment
Protects against unreasonable searches and seizures and sets out requirements for search warrants based on probable cause.
Fifth Amendment
Guarantees the right to due process and prohibits self-incrimination and double jeopardy.
Sixth Amendment
Guarantees the rights of criminal defendants, including the right to a public trial, impartial jury, and the right to counsel.
Seventh Amendment
Provides for the right to a jury trial in civil cases.
Eighth Amendment
Prohibits excessive bail and fines, as well as cruel and unusual punishment.
Ninth Amendment
States that the enumeration of certain rights in the Constitution does not deny or disparage other rights retained by the people.
Tenth Amendment
Affirms that powers not delegated to the federal government nor prohibited to the states are reserved to the states or the people.
Eleventh Amendment
Limits the ability of individuals to sue states in federal court.
Twelfth Amendment
Revises the presidential election process by requiring separate ballots for President and Vice President.
Thirteenth Amendment
Abolishes slavery and involuntary servitude.
Fourteenth Amendment
Grants citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States and guarantees equal protection under the law.
Fifteenth Amendment
Prohibits the denial of the right to vote based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
Sixteenth Amendment
Allows Congress to levy an income tax without apportioning it among the states.
Seventeenth Amendment
Establishes the direct election of U.S. Senators by popular vote.
Eighteenth Amendment
Prohibits the manufacture, sale, and transportation of intoxicating liquors (later repealed by the 21st Amendment).
Nineteenth Amendment
Grants women the right to vote.
Twentieth Amendment
Changes the start and end dates for presidential and congressional terms.
Twenty-First Amendment
Repeals the Eighteenth Amendment, thus ending Prohibition.
Twenty-Second Amendment
Limits presidents to two terms in office.
Twenty-Third Amendment
Grants the District of Columbia electors in the Electoral College.
Twenty-Fourth Amendment
Prohibits the use of poll taxes in federal elections.

Lowers the voting age to 18 years.
Twenty-Seventh Amendment
Delays the effectiveness of any law that changes the salary of Members of Congress until after the next election.
