A large human settlement categorized under Places alongside towns, villages, and hamlets.

Town

A populated place that is larger than a village but smaller than a city.

Village

A small settlement located in a rural area, categorized under Places.

Hamlet

A very small human settlement, smaller than a village.

Map

A visual representation of an area or place used to display locations, scale, and distances.

Scale

The relationship or ratio on a map that represents actual or real-life distances.

Map distance

The distance between two points as measured directly on a map.

Actual distance

The true physical ground measurement between two places, also known as real-life distance.

Real-life distance

The actual physical distance in the real world represented by a shorter measurement on a map.

Represents

To stand for or correspond to a real-life value, such as a map distance standing for an actual distance.

Centimetre (cm)

A metric unit of length commonly used to measure map distances.

Metre (m)

A standard metric unit of distance measurement.

Kilometre (km)

A metric unit of length equal to 1,000 metres, used for measuring longer real-life distances.

Between

A positional term indicating the space or distance separating two distinct locations or objects.

Closer / closest

Comparative and superlative terms indicating a shorter distance to a reference point.

Farther / farthest

Comparative and superlative terms indicating a greater distance from a reference point.
