Cell Respiration
The process that generates ATP using nutrients and oxygen.
Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP)
The currency of the cell whose primary function in the body is to supply energy for cellular activities.
Sodium-Potassium Pump
A cellular process that uses ATP as an energy source to change shape and transport sodium ions out of the cell and potassium ions into the cell across the cell's lipid bilayer.
Physiological Roles of the Sodium-Potassium Pump
Essential functions supported by the sodium-potassium exchange, including kidney filtration and reabsorption, neuron communication, and muscle contraction.
Macronutrients
Nutrients including carbohydrates, fats, and proteins that serve as the fuel for metabolism.
Carbohydrates
Nutrients broken down into glucose, acting as the body's primary quick energy source.
Fats
Macronutrients that provide long-term energy and protection.
Proteins
Macronutrients responsible for building and repairing tissues.
