Describe one application of the social area

  • One application on the social area is increasing obedience in school

  • As the social area says that behaviour is due to the environment, even if not present

  • Research shows children are more likely to behave is there is an authority figure present, setting the standard of how to behave

  • For instance, schools could place teachers around a classroom to watch the students during lessons and ensuring they behave

  • By creating this environment, making good behaviour visible, it can further increase the liklyhood that other children will be well behaved.

Describe one application of the cognitive area

  • one application of the cognitive area is changing the way a person feels about a situation

  • As the cognitive area assumes that out behaviour is heavily influenced by cognitive processes

  • Therefore, how an individual thinks about a situation could cause a mental health problem

  • The aim of cognitive therapy is to change thought patterns so that the situation is perceived more positively, this could be by looking at a situation differently

  • For example through the ABC model of depression, that research shows individuals often view things as their fault

  • Using cognitive therapy would help them see it as external, which is successful at reducing vulnerability to depression

Describe one application of the developmental area

  • one application of the developmental area is curriculum planning

  • As development is an ongoing process through a lifespan as a result of nature/nurture

  • Curriculum planning works on a basis that children develop is set stages

  • Therefore different tasks are accessible at different ages, meaning as they get older they understand different things

  • Which is may schools work on a year group or key stage basis

  • Therefore they can be supported in development at the right speed, aswell as working with their peers, helping them to progress to the next stages of development

New cards

Describe one application of the biological area

  • an application of the biological area is brain training through rehabilitation

  • As the biological area states everything psychological is first physiological, and our behaviours are controlled by our body

  • Research shows how the brain can change and has plasticity.

  • Rehabilitation after brain damage could include exercises or games to stimulate non damaged areas training them to take some responsibility of the damaged areas

  • Therefore showing the plasticity of the brain

Describe one application of the individual differences area

  • one application of the individual differences area is intervention strategies for children with autism

  • As individual differences says individuality should be considered when studying behaviour

  • Research shows adulation with autism struggle to understand emotions so they use other cues to help them

  • For children this could include emotion cards to help them understand thoughts and feelings

  • For adults they could be taught to use visual or auditory cues e.g tone or mouth to judge emotion

6
New cards

Describe one application of the psychodynamic perspective

  • one application of the psychodynamic perspective is to use rehabilitation for criminals

  • As the psychodynamic perspective says our behaviour is controlled by our unconscious thoughts

  • This is because criminals have lower levels of moral development (reading age 11) due to the psychosexual stage their at

  • This could be done by introducing a program where criminal learn skills (english based or practical) to help them progress through the stages

  • This could be done within prison to allow them to gain new skills after life afterwards

7
New cards

Describe an application of the behaviourist perspective

  • one application of the behaviourist perspective is using it for teaching and learning within schools

  • Behaviourism focuses on how behaviours are learned and reinforced by responses

  • Therefore positive reinforcement and operant conditioning can be used to improve behaviour

  • Children who are behaving well could be given a reward to incentivise the naughty children to display better behaviour

  • This will encourage desired behaviours in the classroom and will help to reduce behavioural problems
