what is R configuration?
the substituent priority is clockwise when ordered 1-4
what is S configuration?
the substituent priority is anticlockwise when ordered 1-4
what is an enantiomerically pure sample?
a sample that only contains one enantiomer
what is a racemic mixture?
a mixture containing equal amounts of each enantiomer
what is a trans / E isomer?
the highest priority substituents are on opposite side of the double bond
what is a cis / Z isomer?
the highest priority substituents are on the same side of the double bond
