Multiply each atom count by its atomic mass rounded to 3 significant figures.
add all the mass values and express the result in g/mol
example: H2O
H: 1.0078 × 2 = 2g/mol
O: 16.00 × 1 = 16g/mol
then: 2 + 16 = 18g/mol
what does it mean to balance a chemical reaction?
it means: ensuring that the total number of atoms for each element is equal on both the left side (reactant) and the right (product) side of the chemical equation.
