Natural (background) radiation
Ionizing radiation from sources including cosmic radiation from the sun, uranium and radium ingested through food or water, and radon inhaled from air.
Man-made (artificial) radiation
Ionizing radiation from sources including the nuclear industry, medical exposure, and dental exposure.
Sources of ionizing radiation
The two overarching categories of ionizing radiation: natural (background) and man-made (artificial).
Radon
A source of natural radiation that is inhaled from air.
Uranium and radium
Sources of natural radiation that are ingested through food or water.
