New cards

Seven life processes:

MRS GREN

movement, respiration, sensitivity, growth, reproduction, excretion, nutrition

2
New cards

How many cells in adult human?

37 mil

3
New cards

Unicellular definition

Single celled; one celled organism

4
New cards

What is Diffusion

When particles move from a higher concentrated area to a lower concentrated area

5
New cards

Which kingdom do bacteria belong in?

Prokaryote

6
New cards

Which organism doesnt have a nucleus

Prokaryote

7
New cards

Which organism doesnt have mitochondria

prokaryotes

8
New cards

Which organism doesnt have a cell wall

animals and some protoctists

9
New cards

Which organism doesnt have chloroplasts

only plants and some protoctists have chloroplasts

10
New cards

why are viruses not considered living things

because they cant carry out life processes for themselves

11
New cards

How do viruses replicate?

They have a protein coat that contains a strand of genes. The genes have instructions for making new viruses. when a virus gets into a cell, these genes cause the cell to make new copies which burst outta the cell and infect other cells.

12
New cards

wat r parasites

something that lives on or in an organism and cause harm to it

13
New cards

what are obligate parasites

parasites that cannot reproduce without being in their hosts

14
New cards

equation for bacteria respiring anaerobically

glucose → lactice acid(+some energy)

15
New cards

three conditions for yeast to grow

sugar, moisture, warmth

16
New cards

What are enzymes

A substance that can speed up processes in living things

17
New cards

How do bacteria reproduce and how does it work

Binary fission: Its a method of asexual reproduction in which one cells grows and then splits evenly into two identical parts.

18
New cards

What does lactic acid make and how does it make it

The lactic acid bacteria produces makes the milk sour and thickens it. These bacteria are used to make yoghurt and cheese

19
New cards

What is flagella for?

Movement

20
New cards

how do yeast reproduce?

Budding: A type of asexual reproduction in which a daughter cell grows out of the parent cell. the nucleus copies itself(including all the dna) and the new nucleus moves into the bud. The bud has identical inherited features to the parent cell and splits from it.

21
New cards

equation for yeast aerobic respiration

glucose + oxygen → carbon dioxide + water(+energy)

22
New cards

equation for yeast anaerobic respiration

glucose → carbon dioxide + ethanol(+some energy)

23
New cards

what is anaerobic respiration of microorganisms called?

fermentation

24
New cards

when is aerobic respiration used

when the roots of plants are waterlogged and when there isnt oxygen

25
New cards

what is flagella used for

swimming?moving

26
New cards

how do paramecium and amoeba move

paramecium: moving tiny hairs known as cilia

amoeba: moving their pseudopods

27
New cards

equation for algae photosynethesizing

carbon dixoide + water light energy/ chlorophyll→ glucose+ oxygen

28
New cards

what are decomposers

microorganisms that break down dead organisms and animal wastes in a process called decaying

29
New cards

examples of decomposers

fungi protoctists and bacteria
