Electromagnetism
A branch of physics involving the study of electric fields, magnetic fields, and their interactions.
Electromagnetic induction
The process of inducing a current in a loop when the magnetic field through the loop is changing.
Magnetic field
A space where ferromagnetic materials experience a force of attraction or repulsion; it is a vector quantity.
Ferromagnetic materials
Materials that are easily magnetized, such as iron, cobalt, and nickel.
Field lines
Imaginary lines that represent the direction and strength of a magnetic field, always flowing from north to south.
Noncontact force
A force that does not require physical contact to act on an object, such as magnetic, electrostatic, and gravitational forces.
Magnetic force
The force exerted by a magnetic field, it can attract or repel other magnets or magnetic materials.
Electrostatic force
The force between charged particles, which can also be attractive or repulsive.
Gravitational force
The attractive force that acts between any two masses.
Poles of a magnet
A magnet always has two poles: north and south.
