Tolerance
Needing more of a substance to produce the same effect over time. Example: Someone needs a larger amount of a drug to feel the same effect.
Amygdala
A brain structure involved in processing emotions, especially fear and threat. Example: It becomes active when you perceive danger.
Serotonin
A neurotransmitter involved in mood, sleep, and appetite. Example: Changes in serotonin activity can affect mood.
Interneurons
Neurons in the brain and spinal cord that connect and process information between other neurons. Example: They connect sensory and motor neurons during a reflex.
Excitatory Neurotransmitter
A neurotransmitter that makes a neuron more likely to fire. Example: Glutamate is a major excitatory neurotransmitter.
