What is human behavior?
An attempt to explain how and why humans function the way they do.
What are the key topics that affect learning?
Instructor and Learner Relationship, motivation (human needs, human nature), defense mechanisms, and learner emotional reactions.
What is motivation?
The reason one acts or behaves.
How can you maintain motivation?
Reward success. present new challenges.
How can you recognize a drop in motivation, and what can you do?
Unprepared or general sense that aviation in not a priority, remind them of their own goals. Plateaus are common.
How can you summarize the importance and application of human needs?
Law of Readiness, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.
What is Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs?
Physiological Needs, Safety and Security, love and belongingness, self-esteem, (cognitive and aesthetic), self-actualization
What are the two systems of thought?
System 1 (Fast), System 2 (Slow). Fast: emotional, automatic, unconscious effort, lazy, impulsive. Slow: logical, deliberate, conscious effort, calculating, self-control.
What are defense mechanisms?
To protect oneself.
What are the defense mechanisms?
Projection, Fantasy, Reaction formation, Denial, Repression, Displacement, Compensation, Rationalization.
What are the learner emotional reactions?
Stress, Worry/Lack of Interest, Anxiety, Physical, Impatience, Apathy
What should you do with adult learners?
Training syllabus, integrate new with prior knowledge, SBT, self-direction.
