Olaudah Equiano

(1745-1797) was captured in West Africa when he was a boy of 11, sold into slavery and transported to the Americas,He found paying work and payed for his freedom (1789). he wrote his own autobiography

Kingdom that emerged in 1700’s in present day Ghana and was active in the trade of enslaved people

Oyo empire

Yoruba people formed this state in present day south-west Nigeria in 1600’s . The empire used wealth from trade ,including slave trading . to maintain a trained army and to eventually conquer the neighboring kingdoms . The Yoruba trained with euro merchants .

How was the African slave trade before European involvement different from the slave trade after Euro involvement

before euro a small ampount of people were being enslaved they were used for debt claim,punishment crime or enslaved prisoners at war , when euros got hold they began to claim them as property and had no intentions of giving them basic human rights
