What parts of the brain are thought to be involved during working memory?
The Prefrontal Cortex is thought to be involved during working memory
Behaviour: Minimal interference between visuospatial & phonological tasks suggests dissociable WM systems
Brain: Each hemisphere of PFC supports different aspects of WM
Visuospatial- primary R hemisphere
Phonological- primarily L hemisphere
What is the modern view?
The Prefrontal Cortex supports the active maintenance, manipulation, and control of information
While posterior brain regions store the content specific representations
PFC → maintains, manipulates, and controls access to those representations
Posterior regions → represent/store the content of information
PFC does rehearsal & posterior sites do storage

The Neural Mechanisms of WM Storage- What is the Lateralized Change Detection Task?
Asked participants, get cue to attend to one or the other side of screen. Presented a memory array. After short interval retention they are tested.
