1) Perform hand hygiene and ahdere to standard precautions
2) open the package containing drainage system and place on bed
3) open the cathertization kit only touching edges and keeping bottom sterile
4) open catheter package and place into the catheter kit

6 Steps
1) open the lubricant package and put into sterile tray + open the solution and put into sterile tray
2) Now put on sterile gloves
3) apply 1st sterile drape between thighs
4) apply fenestrated sterile drape over perineum exposing labia
5) place sterile tray on the bed now
6) put syringe on urinary catheter and lubricate it

S6: Insert Catheter Female
3 steps what are they?
1) Retract the labia with the non-dominant hand to fully exposee the urethral meatus and maintain retraction
2) with sterile dominant hand pick up antiseptic swab and cleanse from least contaminated to most contaminated area using one swab per swipe in 3 area
- labial fold
- urethreal meatus
3) slowly insert catheter 5-7cm or until urine flows, do not force against resistence, when urine appears advance catheter 2.5-5cm and release labia and hold catheter will non-dominant hand and inflate balloon with the 10cc syringe, pull gently to ensure resistance

S6: Insert Male Catheter
10 steps
1. retract foreskin with non-dominant hand
2. grasp penis at shaft below glands
3. retract urethral meatus between thumb and forefinger and maintain this position
4. With sterile dominant hand pick up cotton ball with forcepts and clean penis, move in a circular motion doing this 3x
5. lift penis perpendicular to body
6. ask pt to bear down as it voiding and slowly insert catheter
7. advance catheter 17-22.5 cm until urine flows and stop if resistance is met
8. when urine appears advance another 2-5cm
9. lower penis and hold catheter securly in non dominant hand and inflate balloon
10. reduce the foreskin back
