emergance

widespread discontent and a growing awareness of a particular issue, no formal organisation

Coalescence

community forms around issue, target and goals are agreed upon, leadership emerges and organised action begins

Bureacratisation

group becomes structured and organised, with defined roles, hierachies and procedures, leads to greater efficency and effectiveness, but can result in loss of initial passion and internal conflict

Decline

the movement is finished, resulting from success in achieving its goals, loss of momentum or resources, repression, co-option or internal conflict

Mainstream success

when a movements values become incoperated into the mainstream and are seen as the norm
