Information Needs
What an individual recognizes, whether personal or professional, that will serve as the basis for making decisions to survive.
Authenticity
The information’s originality or legitimacy, including whether there is a way to check its origin such as domain name and links.
Validity
The accuracy and precision of information presented such that it is more factual, less biased, and error free.
Reliability
The relevance of information and whether it is up-to-date; it may also encompass the concept of validity.
Library
A place containing collections of books, periodicals, and sometimes films and recorded music for people to read, borrow, or refer to; a repository of information and written knowledge.
Social function of library facilities
Providing a common ground for users to interact or a neutral site for individuals from different disciplines to come together.
Indigenous Knowledge (IK)
Local knowledge unique to a given culture or society that contrasts with international knowledge systems generated by universities and research institutions.
Indigenous Media
Media produced and operated by the government and the community that is separate from commercial, state-run, or public broadcasting media.
Characteristics of Indigenous Media
Includes oral tradition, information stored in memories, face-to-face exchange, and information contained within the borders of the community.
Quality Information
Information that is in accordance with the user's specific needs.
Alternative forms of communication
Distribution methods such as social media, blogs, and flash mob performances that provide ordinary individuals with a quicker way of distributing information.
Cross-referencing
The skill of checking information against other sources to ensure consistency as a means of determining reliability.
