Vidit hoc Balbus;

Balbus saw this;

celatam esse Clodiam dixit, atque ita Caelium ad illam attulisse,

he said that Clodia was kept ignorant, and that Caelius thus gave her the excuse,

se ad ornatum ludorum aurum quaerere.

that he needed the gold to put on lavish games.

Si tam familiaris erat Clodiae, quam tu esse vis,

If he was as close a friend of Clodia as you want him to be,

cum de libidine eius tam multa dicis, dixit profecto, quo vellet aurum;

when you were speaking so much about his immorality, then he really did tell [her] the reason he wanted the gold;

si tam familiaris non erat, non dedit.

if he was not such a close friend of hers, she did not give it.

Ita, si verum tibi Caelius dixit, o immoderata mulier, sciens tu aurum ad facinus dedisti;

So if Caelius told you the truth, you intemperate woman, you knowingly gave him gold for a crime;

si non est ausus dicere, non dedisti.

if he did not dare to tell you, you never gave it.
