Simple Squamous Cells
A single layer of flat, hexagonal cells.

Stratified Squamous Epithelium
Several layers of cells, cuboidal in the basal layer and flattened toward the surface.

Simple Cuboidal Epithelium
Single layer of cube shaped cells, some having microvilli or cilia

Protect against friction. Found in blood vessels and heart.

Single layer of cells with nuclei at different levels, reach the free surface

Yellow or brown, little extracellular matrix surrounding cells, so full of lipid that nucleus is in periphery.

Matrix composed of fibers that run in all different directions

Hyaline Cartilage
Collagen fibers are small and evenly dispersed in matrix

Allows growth of long bones, flexibility, and rigidity. Found in trachea, bronchi, ribs, and nose.

Elastic cartilage
Elastic cartilage fibers dispersed across matrix

Fibrocartilage
Similar to hyaline cartilage, more numerous fibers arranged in thick bundles

Consists of dendrites, a cell body, axon, glia, and is surrounded by neurons.
