National Service Training Program (NSTP)
A program aimed at enhancing civic consciousness and defense preparedness in the youth by developing the ethics of service and patriotism.
Republic Act 9163
Also known as the National Service Training Program Act of 2001; an act establishing the NSTP for Tertiary Level Students signed on January 23, 2002.
Primary Objective of RA 9163
To promote the role of the youth in nation-building.
Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS)
Programs or activities contributory to the general welfare and betterment of life for community members, focusing on health, education, environment, entrepreneurship, safety, recreation, and morals.
Literacy Training Service (LTS)
A component that trains students to become non-licensed instructors of functional literacy and numeracy skills for school children and out-of-school youths.
Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC)
A program designed to provide military training to tertiary level students to motivate, train, organize, and mobilize them for national defense preparedness.
NSTP Coverage
Incoming first-year students of any baccalaureate degree or at least two-year TVET programs in public and private institutions.
Sangguniang Kabataan officials
Elected or appointed officials in good standing who are exempted from taking the NSTP-CWTS subjects during their incumbency.
Exempted Institutions
PMA, PMMA, PNPA, and MAAP are exempted from NSTP due to the special character of these institutions.
NSTP Academic Period
The program shall be undertaken for an academic period of 2 semesters.
NSTP Credit Units and Hours
Credited for 3 units per semester, consisting of 54 to 90 training hours per semester.
CHED
Commission on Higher Education; one of the top implementers of the NSTP Law.
DND
Department of National Defense; one of the top implementers of the NSTP Law.
TESDA
Technical Education and Skills Development Authority; one of the top implementers of the NSTP Law.
National Service Reserve Corps (NSRC)
An organization composed of graduates of the non-ROTC components (CWTS and LTS) who may be mobilized by the State for literacy and civic welfare activities.
Citizen Armed Force
The organization formed by graduates of the ROTC program.
