What is confidentiality and accountability needed from PSW?

• confidentiality = reps. client privacy → ethical and legal responsil. → client can see chart/careplan

• Accountability = seek timely help 4 best client outcome

  • Outline, Assess, Identify (areas where you are competent) , Identify (areas where you require additional edu, exp, super), Share

• 4 PSW

  • Identify, Ensure, Advocate, Take (responsibility), Practice, Take (action 4 when client is at risk, R&R)

Issues with social media & privacy?

• Issues = Proffestionallism (privacy breach), free speech, how private is the internet?, online rep, where to get info ab privacy

• electronic privacy → person right 2 → image, words, description, or comments ab, reputati, 4 public, _> illegal

5 tips to navigate social media

1. dont forget professional duty = need 2 know

2. never post college info → harassment includes online

3. Internet is not private → archived, data collectors, misuse = investigation, penalty, fines, sueing

• 2014 → nurse post pic of trauma room = fired 

• 2017 → student fined 25k 4 snooping

4. Protect rep from snoops

5. report problem + breach = report unauth. collection, disclosure/use of PI or PHI

What is PHIPA?

PHIPA = Personal health Information Protection Act 

• start in 2004 → regulates collection, disclosure/use of PHI (personal health info)

• PHIPA apply 2 → HICC (Health Info. Custodians) = Hospital, pharma, doctor, dental clinic → or Agents (nurse in hospital, receptionist @ clinc) → External agencies w. contracts (cleaning company)

• PHIPA principles = patient access PHI or withdraw consent (LOCKBOX) → Circle of care (HC team) → need 2 know → Sharing without consent → consent sharing, express vs Implied consent 

• express consent = written/verbal → outside of circle of care → not healthcare related → Ex. to a family member/friend 

• implied consent = based on → patient action/inaction, inside of healthcare → Ex. to a hospital, pharmacy

• PHI (personal health info) = Info on → phsy/mental health, test results, provider identity/service, identi. of SDM ( sub decision maker), health card/payments

What is the IPC? What do they do?

• IPC = Info & Privacy Commissioner of Ontario

  • advices/consult/educate on privacy practices, investigates problems + give orders →  ensures law compliance 

How to ensure privacy? What do do if there is a breach?

ensure privacy = audio + physical > no cell phones @ placement, low voice, private room, secure pass, log off, secure paper work → need to know policy → 

Privacy breach = improper use, collection,
disclosure, or destruction of PHI 

• report 2 = contact → placement super/facility → contain breach → Georgian college access & privacy office
