5.7 - Stages of production and consumption

Stage 1

Extracting or growing raw materials - All goods start as raw materials, dug from the ground, grown in farms (e.g. oils metals)

Stage 2

Manufacturing or processing - Most raw materials are processed, transformed into products, by washing, sorting, packaging.

Stage 3

Distribution - Goods are transported to consumers, by ships, trains, planes and trucks taken to warehouses for storage then to shops.

Stage 4

Consumption - Goods and services are consumed and rapidly at that due to the growth of the population, which effects the environment.

Stage 5

Waste - The goods get treated, recycled and others get dumped.
As the consumption increases, the waste in the world does too.
