Type III Technician
A technician certified to maintain, service, repair, or dispose of low-pressure appliances.
Purge Unit
A device that removes non-condensables from a low-pressure chiller system.
Hydrostatic Tube Test Kit
A tool used to determine if a tube in a refrigeration system is leaking.
Test Pressure
Maximum pressure during leak testing a low-pressure centrifugal chiller, capped at 10 psig.
Leak Detection
The process of identifying leaks in the refrigerant system to prevent air and moisture intrusion.
Regulated Refrigerant
Refrigerant types governed by EPA regulations that require leak repairs if the threshold leak rate is exceeded.
Threshold Leak Rate
The established limit at which a leak in a system must be repaired, typically if the refrigerant charge is 50 pounds or greater.
Open-Drive Type Compressor
A type of compressor that is particularly prone to leaks due to its design allowing for external air contact.
Standard Vacuum Test
A test that checks for leaks if the pressure in a system rises from 1 mm Hg to above 2.5 mm Hg.
Condenser
A component in refrigeration that helps in the process of transferring heat from the refrigerant to the surroundings.
