Category B Vehicle (People)
A motor vehicle designed to transport people with no more than 8 seats excluding the driver, totaling 9 seats.
Category B Vehicle (Cargo)
A motor vehicle for transporting cargo where the maximum weight, including contents, does not exceed 3500kg.
Expired License Procedure
When a driver's license (rivoways) loses its validity, the driver must obtain a duplicate or renew it.
Driving Prohibitions
Situations where driving is illegal, including lack of license/permit, being under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medications that limit ability, or when a judge or police have suspended the right to drive.
General Traffic Behavior
Conducting oneself in a manner that does not unnecessarily endanger traffic safety.
Required Documents for Public Roads
A valid driver's license (rivoways), valid inspection card (keuringskaart), tax papers (papel de number), and valid insurance papers.
Inspection Card (Keuringskaart) Duration
Validity is 2 years for personal vehicles and 1 year for all other vehicles; new vehicles do not need certification for the first 3 years.
Front Seat Passenger Age Limit
Minors under the age of 12 years are prohibited from sitting in the front seat.
Baby Transportation Rule
Babies must be placed in a child seat in the back with a seat belt fastened.
Convertible and Jeep Safety
In convertibles or jeeps without a roof, all passengers must wear seat belts.
Seat Width Standard
Every 50cm of seat width is considered a single seat.
Pickup Bed Transportation
Transporting people in the bed of a pickup is prohibited unless a special permit from the Minister of Justice is obtained.
Accident Duty: First Aid
If a person or animal is injured, the driver must provide help as quickly as possible and stay at the scene for police/forensics.
Accident Documentation Exchange
Drivers must provide their identity and vehicle information, and show their driver's license and insurance papers to the other party.
Police Authority
Drivers are obligated to stop when ordered, show all vehicle papers, and follow all orders or directions from police directing traffic.
