Citric acid cycle/
Krebs cycle-3 steps
Step 1 Prep work
pyruvic acid is oxidized generating 2 NADH. Then it is decarboxylated, removing 2Co2’s , leaving 2 carbon compounds called acetyl. The Acetyl compound is attached to an enzyme producing Acetyl- CoA.
Step 2 entering the cycle
CoA of acetyl-CoA attaches Acetyl to 4 carbon compounds, thus reforming citric acid.
step 3 turning of the cycle-
Citric acid is oxidized and decarboxylated twice to produce 4 NADH and 4 Co2. CoA is attached to the remaining 4 carbon compounds.CoA is removed from the 4 carbon compounds releasing energy. Energy released phosphorylates to form 2 ATP. 4 carbon is generated 2 FADH2. And are oxidized again to generate 2 NADH
