Audiometry

The quantitative measurement of hearing acuity for various sound frequencies and intensities using an audiometer.

Otoscopy

The clinical examination of the external auditory canal and tympanic membrane (eardrum) using an illuminated instrument called an otoscope.

Tympanometry

A diagnostic procedure that measures the mobility of the tympanic membrane and middle ear structures in response to changes in air pressure to evaluate middle ear function.

Tuning Fork Tests (Rinne & Weber)

Bedside hearing examinations using a vibrating tuning fork to differentiate between conductive hearing loss and sensorineural hearing loss.

Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) Test

A diagnostic test that measures electrical brain wave activity in response to clicks or tones to evaluate the auditory nerve pathways and inner ear function.

Electronystagmography (ENG)

A series of diagnostic tests that record involuntary eye movements (nystagmus) to evaluate the health and balance functions of the vestibular system in the inner ear.

Rhinoscopy

The visual examination of the nasal passages and internal nasal structures using a light source and a nasal speculum or endoscope.

Laryngoscopy

The visual examination of the larynx (voice box) and vocal cords using a mirror or a rigid/flexible laryngoscope.
