Vedic Mathematics
A system of mental mathematics techniques covered in the lecture including VINCULAM, multiplication and division with powers of 5, series of 1s and 9s, base/face value square methods, square roots, cubes, and cube roots.
VINCULAM
A shortcut method for solving addition-subtraction based problems in one or two steps, represented using a bar over the number as its symbol.
Multiplication by 5, 25, 125
Shortcut techniques where a number is multiplied by 10 and divided by 2 for 5; multiplied by 100 and divided by 4 for 25; and multiplied by 1000 and divided by 8 for 125.

Shortcut techniques where a number is multiplied by 2 and divided by 10 for 5; multiplied by 4 and divided by 100 for 25; and multiplied by 8 and divided by 1000 for 125.
Multiplication by Series of 1's
A calculation method for multipliers like 11, 111, and 1111 where digits are added in doublets, triplets, or quadruplets from right to left.
Multiplication by Series of 9's
A shortcut method where a number of zeroes equal to the count of 9s is appended to the right of the multiplicand, after which the original multiplicand is subtracted from the result.
Face Value Method for 2-Digit Squares
A formula method used to calculate the square of any two-digit number (ab)2, defined as a2×100+2×a×b×10+b2 or represented as a2 | 2×a×b | b2.
Base Value Method for Squares (Number > Base Value)
A base method for calculating squares when the number exceeds its base value: Square=[(Number+(Number−Base Value))]×Base Value+(Number−Base Value)2.
Base Value Method for Squares (Base Value > Number)
A base method for calculating squares when the base value exceeds the number: Square=[(Number−(Base Value−Number))]×Base Value+(Base Value−Number)2.
Square of Number Ending with 5
A two-step method where Step 1 multiplies the first digit by itself plus one (n×(n+1)) and Step 2 appends 25 to the right of the Step 1 result.
Cubes Using Algebraic Identity
A calculation shortcut that finds the cube of a two-digit number (ab)3 using the expansion a3 | 3a2b | 3b2a | b3 and carrying values to adjacent digits.
Square Root Shortcuts for Perfect Squares
A four-step method involving checking the unit digit pair, selecting a base whose square is less than the remaining number, multiplying by the next consecutive number, and comparing to select the correct digit.
Cube Root Shortcuts
A four-step method where the unit digit's corresponding last digit is identified, the last three digits are ignored, and the digit whose cube is less than or equal to the remaining portion is selected.
BODMAS
An acronym for the rule used to solve mathematical expressions in correct order: Brackets (B), Of/Orders (O), Division (D), Multiplication (M), Addition (A), Subtraction (S).
