Types of sampling methods

  1. Probability

    • random,

    • (+) Sampling frame

    • List of population

    • Equal Chance to be selected

    • Low BIAS

  2. Non-Probability

    • Non-random

    • (-) Sampling frame

    • No list of population

    • No equal chance to be selected

    • High BIAS

Probability Sampling

  1. Simple Random Sampling- Draw lots system, fish bowl techniques, lottery like.

  2. Stratified Random Sampling - Divide population into strata or groups, and get representative from each group.

  3. Cluster Sampling - Divide into groups/ cluster, and include all members of the selected group.

  4. Multistage Sampling - Simple random sampling but done multiple times.

  5. Systematic Sampling - “Every” nth of the list. Population Number divided by sample. Start randomly.

4
New cards

Non-Probability

  1. Convenience/ Accidental: Whoever is available and willing to participate. (MOST COMMON)

  2. Quota Sampling: Starts with convenience then sets limits.

  3. Purposive/ Judgmental Sampling: Sets mental image or characteristics of a prospect respondents.

  4. Snowball / Network Sampling: used for sensitive population; Via referrals/ Recommendation.

    • First Identified respondents: Seeds

5
New cards

Non-Proability: Snowball/ Network Sampling

Sampling Used for sensitive population; Via referrals/ Recommendation.

  • First Identified respondents: Seeds

6
New cards

Non-Probability: Purposive/Judgmental Sampling

Sampling Sets mental image or characteristics of a prospect respondents.

7
New cards

Non-Probability: Quota Sampling

Sampling Starts with convenience then sets limits.

8

Probability: Systematic Sampling

Sampling “Every” nth of the list. Population Number divided by sample.

  • Start randomly
