Pharaoh
A powerful leader in ancient Egypt who controlled the lands and was honored by the people during their reign and afterlife.
Mummy
A body that has been preserved after death to prevent it from decaying.
King Tutankhamen
A famous pharaoh known for his well-preserved tomb discovered in 1922.
Old Kingdom
A period in ancient Egyptian history from about 2700 to 2200 B.C.E. known as the Age of the Pyramids.
Middle Kingdom
A period from about 2000 to 1800 B.C.E. also known as the Period of Reunification.
New Kingdom
The period from about 1600 to 1100 B.C.E. often referred to as Egypt's Golden Age.
Great Pyramid at Giza
The largest pyramid, built during the Old Kingdom by Pharaoh Khufu, one of the wonders of the ancient world.
Senusret I
A pharaoh of the Middle Kingdom known for his contributions to art and literature.
Hatshepsut
One of Egypt's first female pharaohs known for promoting trade and building a great temple.
Ramses II
Also known as Ramses the Great, he was a prominent military leader and builder of monuments during the New Kingdom.
Abu Simbel
A temple complex built by Ramses II, known for its impressive statues and alignment with the sun.
Sphinx
A mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a man, often seen in ancient Egyptian art and architecture.
The Story of Sinuhe
An important work of Egyptian literature from the Middle Kingdom.
Obelisks
Tall, thin monuments, often decorated, that were typically placed at temple entrances.
Peace Treaty
An agreement to end hostilities, the first of which was signed between Ramses II and the Hittites.
