Cervical Rotation
Looking to your left and then your right, such as when checking for others before walking or talking with friends.
Cervical Flexion
Looking down, like when tying shoes or looking down to button pants.
Cervical Extension
Looking up towards the ceiling, for example, to check a ceiling light.
Shoulder Flexion
Raising your arms up straight in front of you as high as you can, like in dumbbell front raises.
Shoulder Extension
Moving your arms backwards behind you while keeping them straight, such as when putting on a jacket.
Shoulder Internal Rotation
Bending your elbow to 90 degrees and rotating your arm downwards, similar to dumbbell shoulder external rotation.
Shoulder External Rotation
Bend your elbow to 90 degrees, while keeping your elbow close to your body. Begin to slowly rotate the arm upwards towards your head
Shoulder Abduction
Moving your arm out to the side and upwards, like waving hello or goodbye.
Elbow Flexion
Bending your elbow to bring your hand close to your shoulder, as when applying makeup or eating.
Elbow Extension
Straightening your arm out in front of you, like when someone is handing you an object.
Forearm Supination
Turning your palm up toward the ceiling with your elbow bent, as when holding a cup of soup.
Forearm Pronation
Turning your palm down toward the floor with your elbow bent, like when pouring soup or flipping game cards.
Wrist Flexion
Flexing your wrist forward with your palm facing up, as when handwriting notes or playing the piano.
Wrist Extension
Bending your wrist backwards with your palm up, as when throwing a ball or doing push-ups.
Ulnar/Radial Deviation
Bending your wrist sideways towards your pinky or thumb, as when changing a lightbulb or using a can opener.
Finger Flexion
Bending your fingers like grabbing something, such as a cup or when drawing.
Finger Extension
Straightening your fingers out, for instance, to catch a ball.
Thumb Opposition
Touching the tip of your thumb to the tip of your pinky, like when picking up coins or using tweezers.
Hip Flexion
Lifting your thighs towards the ceiling, as when going up stairs or taking a cycling class.
Hip Extension
Pushing your leg back as far as you can, keeping it straight, such as when running or doing standing kickbacks.
Knee Flexion
Bending your leg as much as you can at the knee while standing, like in yoga poses or stair climbing.
Knee Extension
Straightening your leg out in front of you while standing, like when kicking a ball or doing hamstring stretches.
Ankle Plantar Flexion
Pointing your toes downwards, such as when driving a car or dancing.
Ankle Dorsi Flexion
Flexing your foot up toward your face, as when taking your foot off the gas or brake pedal.
