respiratory system
taking in oxygen
removing carbon dioxide through breathing.
It works closely with the circulatory system to undergo diffusion.
components
It includes organs such as the lungs, trachea, and diaphragm that facilitate gas exchange and maintain homeostasis.
functions
Bring oxygen into the body
Removes carbon dioxide (a waste product),
Enable speech (via vocal cords)
regulating blood pH and
supply oxygen to muscles during physical activity(working with ccirulatory)
gas exchange
Occurs in the alveoli:
Oxygen moves from alveoli → capillaries (into blood)
Carbon dioxide moves from capillaries → alveoli (to be exhaled)
This process is called diffusion.
Breathing process ( inhalation / insparation)
Diaphragm contracts (moves down)
Chest cavity expands
Air is drawn into lungs
breathing process (exhalation/ expiration)
Diaphragm relaxes (moves up) chest cavity shrinks oxygen withdraws from lungs This process helps in removing carbon dioxide from the body.
respiratory in reponse to excersize
Breathing rate, tidal volume, oxygen uptake, increases
efficient gas exchange - work closely with circulatory system - supply oxygen to working muscles
