Wave
Disturbance/Vibration that transfers energy without transferring matter
2 types of waves
Transverse and longitudinal
Transverse movement
Vibrations move at right angles 90* to the direction the wave travels

Describe transverse particle movement
Particles move up and down while the waves move forward
highest point of a transverse wave and the lowest point?
crest and trough
Wavelength in transverse;
Distance between two crests or two troughs
examples of transverse waves
mechanical waves and electromagnetic waves like; water waves,light waves

Longitudinal wave
The vibrations move parallel to the direction the wave travels.
longitudinal wave particle movement;
Particles move back and forward.
Compression( longitudinal)
Wave particles are close together.
Rarefactions (longitudinal)
Wave particles are spread apart.
Wavelength (longitudinal)
Distance between two compressions.
Examples of longitudinal;
Sound waves,ultrasound.
type of wave needs medium to travel
Longitudinal. (Solid,liquid,gas)
wave does not need medium
Transverse, can travel through a vacuum
