Delirium

An Acute of confusion. S/s of this is Disorganized thinking, angry & irritable, may have halluncations

What may cause Delirium

When a person is dehydrated, high fever, infection, drugs & alcohol, Hypoxia (not enough oxygen)

Delusions vs Hallucinations

Delusions: When something is actually there but their view on it is incorrect.
Hallucinations: They think they are hearing something, seeing something when nothing there.

Dementia

loss of mental abilities, such as thinking, remembering, reasoning, and communicating. It also interferes with ADL & Social Skills

Alzheimer's

Nervous system disorder, also progressive & not curable nerve fibers get tangled up, proteins & plague build up in the brain which slowly causes it to die and lose memory and other important mental functions

Stage 1 of Alzheimer's disease

No impairment (no signs & symptoms)

Stage 2 of Alzheimer's disease

very mild decline: A bit of memory loss, loss of words during convs, forget where they put stuff a bit

Stage 3 of Alzheimer's disease

Mild decline: Where close ppl to the pt start to notice changes in memory, the patient also struggles to function socially.

Stage 4 of Alzheimer's disease

Moderate decline. Where everyone notices and the pt goes to receive help. The doctor will give them long division problems to see what's wrong. They also forget to pay bills & become moody ad start to notice that something is wrong.

Stage 5 of Alzheimer's disease

Moderately severe decline: Cognitive impartible (Shows how you think). The pt now needs assistance in living, they cannot tell you where they live, confused abt time & place. During this ask: Who are you, time & place & year. Cannot do basic math problems but remembers their own name

Stage 6 of Alzheimer's disease

Severe Decline: Need help with ADL, forgotten recent events. Cannot remember their own name, hard time controlling bowl & bladder. They also do alot of wandering

Stage 7 of Alzheimer's disease

Very Severe Decline: unable to communicate with you, need help with eating & using the restroom. Muscles become stiff and difficulty swallowing.
