Motion Coding
Motion is coded through spatial pattern coding where multiple cells in a receptive field code for different directions of motion.
Adaptive Independence
Cones in the visual system operate independently of each other, allowing adaptation to a specific direction of motion without affecting cells coding for other directions.
Neuronal Tuning
Visual neurons fire in response to specific stimuli they are tuned to, such as motion in a particular direction.
Firing Rate
Each cell has a specific response to fire, and the firing rate is a measure of this response.
Pattern Coding
Integration of individual firing rates of cells to perceive motion or other features like angles, where the relative responses of cells determine the perceived direction of movement.
Motion Aftereffect
After adapting to motion in one eye, a motion aftereffect can be seen with the other eye when viewing a static image, with increased transfer if the image is ambiguous (e.g., flickering).
