Opening Skills
The initial steps performed before each skill, including introducing yourself, describing the skill to the resident, and obtaining consent.
Closing Skills
The steps performed after each skill, including offering the call bell, asking if the resident needs anything else, and washing hands.
Documentation Skills
Skills related to recording vital signs or performed procedures on a documentation sheet after completing a skill.
Radial Pulse
The pulse measured at the wrist; healthy range is 60 to 100 beats per minute.
Respiration Rate
The measurement of breaths taken per minute; healthy range is 12 to 20 breaths per minute.
Indirect Care
Non-physical care that includes communication, socialization, and interaction with the resident.
Emesis Basin
A bowl used to collect vomit or other bodily fluids during patient care.
Privacy Blanket
A covering used to maintain resident privacy during procedures.
Gait Belt
A belt used to assist residents when walking to provide support and safety.
Peri Care
Care given to the genital and anal areas of residents, particularly those who are incontinent.
Mouth Care for Dentures
The process of cleaning dentures and the resident's mouth while ensuring proper hygiene.
Passive Range of Motion (ROM)
Exercises performed to move joints and muscles of the resident without their assistance.
Chuck
A disposable underpad used to protect bedding and surfaces during patient care.
Hospital Corners
A method of tucking sheets on a bed to create a neat, clean appearance and prevent pressure sores.
Bedpan
A flat receptacle used by patients in bed who are unable to use a toilet.
Non-skid Footwear
Footwear designed to prevent slipping and provide stability for residents when walking.
Documentation Sheet
A form used for recording the care provided and residents' responses during procedures.
Call Bell
A device provided to residents to summon help when needed.
Gobbler
A specific technique used to support residents when helping them out of bed or changing positions.
