SA Node
The pacemaker of the heart located in the posterior superior wall of the right atrium; generates impulses that start each heartbeat.
AV Node
Located at the base of the interatrial septum; slows down the impulse allowing the atrial chambers to finish contracting before passing it on.
Bundle of His
Also known as the AV Bundle; located in the upper interventricular septum, transmits impulses from the AV node to the bundle branches.
Right and Left Bundle Branches
Located in the lower intraventricular septum; they conduct impulses from the Bundle of His to the ventricles.
Impulse
An electrical signal generated by cells in the SA node that initiates each heartbeat and travels through the conduction pathway.
