Reduced the chance of more uprisings as it was shown that America would not come to the aid of any countries suffering under dictatorship as promised in the Truman Doctrine. This increased tensions between the East and the West.

-Led to a significant increase of tensions between the East and the West. After the death of Stalin, the promise of de-Stalination, and the ‘peaceful coexistence’ the US thought that tensions would begin to fade gradually. But the brutal crush of the uprising showed that through Khruschev’s wish for peaceful coexistence he would not be a docile leader and therefore highlighted the need for containment of communism more than ever.
