hypersensitivity
an exaggerated or inappropriate immune response against an antigen that results in host tissue damage
It can either by self-antigen or foreign-antigen
4 types
type I immediete hypersensitivity
type II antibody-mediated diseases
Type III immune response complex-mediated diseases
These are all mediated from antibodies
Type IV T cell-mediated diseases
this is mediated from T cells
Types of hypersensitivity

Type I immediate hypersensitivity
Classic symptoms resulting from allergic responses- anaphylaxis. Includes: Hay fever, asthma, eczema, bee stings, foot allergies
lifetime prevalence of 15-30% in children and 2-10% in adults
allergic rhinitis: most common form of non-infectious rhinitis, affecting 10-30% of adults and up to 40% of children
prevalence of peanut allergy in children of western countries have doubled in the past 10 years
