how does the FIM (functional independance measure work)

1-7 being scored (7 is completly independant

• used to id progress

what is Katz Index of independance

looks at 6 categories (bathing, dressing, toiletting, transfering, continence, feeding)

and scores as 1- independant or 0-dependant

6= highly independant

usually use this on adults with chronic illness

cane

assist with balance/support

use on unaffected side

crutches

sued for partial/nonwieght bearing ambulation

requires strong upper body

walker vs wlaker w wheels

walkers provdes more support that cane/crutches but if pt does not ahve strength to lift the wlkaer to move give them one with wheels

what is the alberta aids to daily living program (AADL)

helps albertans stay independant

eligible if you are an albertan resident requiring assistance becasue of a longterm disability, chronic illness or terminal illness
