Miles Bartholomew
Known as the "father of the stenograph," he developed the Stenograph Shorthand Machine in 1877/1887.
Stenograph Shorthand Machine
An early device (1877/1887) where keys were pressed singularly to create dots and dashes.
Anderson Shorthand Typewriter
Created by George Kerr Anderson in 1889, it was the first keyboard allowing multiple keys to be pressed at once using English characters.
Ireland Shorthand Machine
A 1911 device developed by Universal Stenotype Company that featured a totally depressible keyboard and was 40,pounds lighter than its predecessors.
Master Model Stenotype
A 1914 machine weighing only 6,pounds; its production ceased during WWII.
LaSalle Stenotype
A 1927 machine featuring a two-spool ribbon system whose success was limited by the Great Depression.
Secretarial Model
An early Stenograph model featuring an 11-inch ribbon and 100-fold paper.
Reporter Model
An early Stenograph model designed to hold 309-fold paper.
Stenograph Data Writer
A 1963 machine using organ-type switches that encoded notes onto magnetic tape (and later cartridges/cassettes by 1974) for computer transcription.
SmartWriter
The first machine (1987) to encode notes onto a floppy disk, marking a major industry shift.
Stenograph Machine (1982)
this machine has many of the same features of the previous model, but it was the first iteration to have a plastic shell, or casing. This made the machine more durable.
Stentura Elan Mira Student (2005)
This was another great option gor students affectionally known as the "paperless writer for students" While it features the same technology as the professional version, it is in a limited fashion at a more student accessible price.
Stentura Series
The first series (1992) to feature an LCD screen for instantaneous translation in English or Steno.
Élan Cybra
The first totally paperless, inkless, and ribbonless stenography machine, released in 2001.
Élan Mira Series
A 2003 machine featuring an adjustable LCD, USB and Serial ports for realtime writing, and audisync OTG.
Stentura Protégé Student
A 2005 machine designed for students featuring USB and Serial connectivity with optional wireless real-time reporting.
Stentura Fusion
A 2006 machine capable of being paper or paperless that included SD card compatibility and Audio Sync.
The Diamante
A 2009 machine that established a new standard for speed with "True Stroke" technology and dual SD cards.
The Luminex
A 2015 machine featuring "True Stroke" technology, chrome-plated key levers to reduce friction, and a customizable keyboard with depth and tension control.
